Welcome to the Abram Demaree Homestead!

We are a historic house from 1760, working farm, farm cafe, and vintage goods shop at the corner of Old Hook and Schraalenburgh Roads in Closter, NJ.

The Abram Demaree Homestead is on the National Register of Historic Places. We’re a nonprofit organization; all proceeds go toward maintaining the house and farm and preserving a pocket of colonial history in northern New Jersey for all to enjoy.

Come on down to the Homestead: explore the house, visit the farm, enjoy fresh, homemade food, shop for antiques and vintage items, and get a feel for what Northern New Jersey was like centuries ago in all seasons. Different parts of the Homestead are open at various times; see our hours listed here.

Meet our blacksmiths and watch them work the forge every Saturday and Sunday!

Stop by the Abram Demaree Homestead’s 18th century blacksmith shop on Saturday and Sunday mornings (1o-1 pm) for free blacksmithing demos. Our blacksmiths-in-residence, the Ramapo Mountain Artist-Blacksmiths, work the forge, just like blacksmiths did in colonial-era Bergen County, and they’ve created some amazing pieces for sale.
